Declaring war from Mexico, the satanic guerrillero who goes by Tecuhtli Nexcoyotl lets his voice be heard with the latest full length album from his band Apocalyptic Noise dubbed, Sacrificios De Guerra. This is a blindingly noisy album with some intense production and hard hitting percussions that will literally rock you to your core. Taking the mantle of ‘War Metal’ seriously here, this is a release that is littered with imagery, both nihilistic and nationalistic in nature that fit with the overall sound just perfectly.
This album goes straight to the face and doesn’t ask questions. While, the opening track is a bit of a long-winded atmospheric intro with samples of some sort of political speech, over the sounds of fuzzy distorted guitars, the rest of the album sounds like the musical equivalent to warfare. The drums are this endless blast beat that sound a lot like attack helicopters flying overhead or the sound of a machine gun rumbling, with noisy and chaotic riffs and bestial vocals blaring out left and right. Its truly an off putting experience at first, but once you ease yourself into the war mentality, you can really start to hear what is going on under all those layers. Its something bordering on grindcore, noise, and death metal. Personally, if you can really focus, I think the guitars are done very well. Unique yet crushing riffs with some unique licks hidden underneath all the noise thrown about across a few tracks.
Most of the tracks have the same format. Blasts, riffs, screams, end. They’re all rather short with only one of the three covers being over three-and a half minutes. Speaking of the covers, they’re predictable covers given the genre and the sound approach here. War Command by war metal legends Blasphemy, Witching Metal by Sodom, and Slaughterhouse by Mortician. These three bands are clearly influences given the stylistic approach of this album, and the covers are done justice. Hearing Witching Metal done in such a noise and chaotic way is rather charming and gives a new perspective to that legendary song in my opinion.
All in all this is a rather solid ‘war metal’ release. You can’t really expect much more from an album like this as it hits all of the nails on the head. Controversial imagery, intense noisy production bordering on noise or power electronics, bestial vocals and a guitar down-tuned so low it literally shook my head as I was listening to this with headphones. I can see many people being a fan of this album if they’re aligned with this sorta sound, and I personally enjoyed my time giving this a listen. Any trve kvlt fans of bestial war metal, or bestial black/death metal should certainly give this a listen.
