Ts’Ono’Ot is the title of the latest release from the rather mysterious act Ch’Ahom, an ancient death cult of Germanic origins, who interestingly enough reference a lot of ancient Aztec gods in their music. Regardless, they present some punishing blackend death metal of celestial origins. This one track EP is just but a taste of what is to come in the future.
A slow and atmospheric intro brings us deep within the twisting void the track drags you into. Ritualistic drumming and flutes summon the sudden sound of wailing guitars and hellish vocals. The track delves deeper into the dark with some punishing and creative drumming, and the prog style song writing really lends its self well to the heavily atmospheric and thematic approach that they’re bringing with this release. The track is extremely diverse, running at just over 12 minutes, they’re able to show off what is an evolution from what their previous demo releases were like. This particular track is from the recordings of an upcoming debut album, so if this is evident for what’s to come I am certainly interested. The balance between the more twisted black metal parts and the more progressive death metal sounds really hook you into its story that its spinning. I’d highly recommend others to check out this release and keep their eyes peeled out for their debut as I know I’m certainly giving it a listen.
