A heinous and Vile Ritual is being conjured within the underground here in the US. This one man maniac has brought upon us their debut album Caverns of Occultic Hatred. This is some powerful blackened death metal with dissonant riffs, brutal vocals, and an occult approach that creates a daunting atmosphere that overwhelms the listener in its twisted embrace.
These tracks are dense, with plenty of wild and twisting guitar riffs, hard hitting blast beats, and bestial vocals to encapsulate the horrific cosmic images this album creates. Each track is extremely diverse, with each track feeling like its own journey and dark progression you can really get sucked up and lost within the ritualistic aspects of the music, creating this dark psychedelia. Truly a unique sound that pushes past other blackened death metal acts of similar ilk. Ontop of that, the production is raw and aggressive, and certainly punishing. There are these awesome moments with the guitars where they create these dissonant passages that just keep building up the atmosphere and almost tell a sort of story.
Caverns of Occultic Hatred is the type of release that you gain appreciation for each time you listen to it. There are so many little production details squeezed into this album that continues to build up that heavy atmosphere that lends its self to the album so well. One of my favorite little details that would go unnoticed at first was on the track Living Hell. Through out the album, the guitars sound like your traditional down tuned death metal guitars, but they turn into this harsh screeching guitar more akin to something found in black metal on that track. At first if not paying attention you wouldn’t realize that switch and how seamlessly it fits in with the rest of the more heavy and hard hitting album. There are other little moments like this through out the album as well that really shows off the creativity behind this release.
With such a hard hitting debut, this Vile Ritual has truly drawn me into its occultic hate. With all of the dissonant atmosphere, dark psychedelic guitar riffs and punishing drums and vocals, this album should be experienced by all. A full must listen and a high recommendation from me.
